Artefacts Studio Internship

June - December 2024

Internship as a QA Tester for Terraforming Mars (PC/OSX/Steam/Epic/GOG/Android/IOS) & another game in development.

QA Testing

During the internship I ran QA tests for Terraforming Mars & a game that is still in development.

Concerning Terraforming Mars

During my internship I was solo QA Tester for the game.

I did maintenance tests to assure the quality of the already released game and to find bugs that needed to be fixed quickly since players can stumble on them.

I also had to test the different cards and mechanics added for the new DLC's that we were developping. During my internship we released the Original Promo Pack and developped the Big Box Promo Pack. Each of these DLC's had cards with plenty of new synergies with the old and new cards that needed to be tested out, because of the numerous edge cases.

Alongside with the tests I took part in dialogues with the editor TwinSails Interactive and uploaded the different builds on the stores so the editor could access it for releases.

Community Management

When working on Terraforming Mars, I also spent time responding to players questions on the Discord server made for announcements, beta releases, players feedbacks & players bug reports.

I also spent time sorting and identifying the different bug reported by the players in order to test the relevant ones and add them to the Jira database.

Concerning the unreleased project

Alongside my work for Terraforming Mars, I also worked as a Tester on another project in development.
I can't say much about it, but it was a great opportunity since I had to work with a bigger team of around 30 people.
At a point I also worked with another colleague, instead of working alone as I did for a long period of time. This meant that we had to split our work and had to communicate a lot more in order for us not to overlap to go faster. It felt very good to have a different view of this work with a teammate and even more since we had great alchemy together.

Game Design

Also worked as Game Designer to rework some mechanics and UI elements on Terraforming Mars.

Example of a mechanic I reworked after I felt it needed to during tests.

Marked Areas

These are spots a player can reserve to place a tile on them later. Unfortunately, placing them hid all the informations about bonuses that would be gained by placing a tile there. Also there were problems to understand who was the owner of the Area if 2 players had the same Corporation (these act as class).

For the rework I proposed a new version where all bonuses info could be visible by clearing the Corporation icon. And to know who owns the area I decided to use common visual cues of the game, like player colour highlight around the area.

Here you can find the whole document I made to propose a new rework for these areas.
